
The usually reticent Ira Kaplan, his hair screaming toward the sky like Bob Dylan circa 1966, seemed practically giddy. After opener Nancy performed in capes, after comedian Jo Firestone told some jokes about Spanx, Yo La Tengo emerged for their set on the third night of their eight-night run of Hanukkah shows at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday. It felt special from the start, with a beautiful, droney cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" (which Kaplan dedicated to "all the Abraham's out there"), with hypnotic waves of feedback undergirding Kaplan's delicate vocals.
